Simply stencils - Mixed Media Layout

Hello there! Here comes my final project with the May kit. For this layout I wanted to mainly use the Stampendous stamps set (by Nathalie Kalbach). I just love these designs!! And there is also a free template included in the stamp set, by the way!!! Therefore, be prepared for yet another stencil project :) ...

This is how I did the layout background:

I sprayed some yellow and green spray ink directly onto the white cardstock. The colours I used are by Lindy´s Stamp Gang (Yellow Rose of Texas and Rusty Lantern Lime). 

Next I took some black and grey dye ink and stamped with the "Wired" stamp set near the areas where my photos would later be. The grey ink is a shadow ink and will end up being a much lighter tone, when dry.

After that I applied some black Glimmer Glaze and created random ink splatters for contrast. 

I really like adding ink splatters to my layout background so I added a few more :). This time I first used the "New Sprout" ink spray (from the kit). And a Lindy´s Starburst colour "Shabby Turbine Teal". 

Then I proceeded by placing the stencil that was included in the stamp set over the cardstock and dabbed randomly over the stencil with VersaMark ink. 

After that I just first poured some grey embossing powder over the inked area and after that added the green powder. Then I just heated the powder with a heat gun. 

This is how my background looked before adding the photos, embellishments, the title and journaling.

This is the finished layout. I added some vellum paper to the edges and painted it with the blue "Beach Hut" tone and stamped with black dye ink and the circle dot stamp from the kit over it. I love the look of the vellum when painted with the Fresco Paints!! I also treated the wooden heart with the light green chalk ink that was in the kit. Other than that I left the embellishments as they were (untreated).

Hello again! I´ve got one more project to share with you this month and this is also my second contribution this month to my "simply stencils" series. Here is a little layout idea for your inspiration:

I first chose a stencil I would like to create a background patter with and placed it over a piece of white cardstock. I then applied some grey stamp ink (using a blending tool) thru the stencil. That created a really nice triangle pattern. 

 Next I sprayed the whole background with a yellow Lindy´s Stamp Gang spray ink (Yellow Rose of Texas). 

 Next I wanted to create a colour border underneath the photo, so I took several colours of Lindy´s Stamp Gang´s spray inks and randomly sprayed them onto the background next to each other. I let them create droplets quite freely (used tones: Magnolia Magenta Gold, Smoky Sapphire, Ramblin´ Rose Pink, Steampunk Sepia and Shabby Turbine Teal).

 I then used a Hero Arts cling stamp and stamped with the blue Midi Staz-On ink right above the colour border.

 Now that my background was done I just needed to add the title and some embellishments. I had chosen some wooden letters for the title, but only had two that were suitable. I therefore used the Tim Holtz Clear Fragments, a copic black pen and a woodgrain paper to create similar looking alphas for my title.

 The round canvas pieces are colored with Lindy´s spray inks (I used pretty much the same colours like on the droplets. I then stamped with a text stamp and blue Staz-On ink over them and finally added some Liquitex Titanium white ink droplets here and there. The stars I created with the Amazing Mold Putty and Amazing Casting Resin. Once they were ready for use, I covered them with IZINK golden ink and some Alumilite Silver Metallic Powder.

Finally I just wrote the journaling around the edges of the paper and my layout was done! I hope you liked this little inspirational project!

I completely fell in love with Alumidust,  an Amazing Crafting Products, support product.  It's original intended use, is for Fishing Lures, etc., but that never stopped a crafter!  No way!

I used several shades of Alumidust and Metallic Powders on my layout to create AMAZING texture and color!

'A Blank Canvas', March Edition

Hello and Happy Thursday!

Tina here today with my March Edition of 'A Blank Canvas'.   Each month, I share my creative process on how I transform a blank sheet of chipboard into a Mixed Media layout, using the current month's kit supplies!

Let's take a peek at my layout.

One of my current obsessions is creating with wax medium and this month was not exception.  I used the Texture Treads from the Limited Edition kit with wax and covered it with Lindy's Magicals.  A match made in heaven.

Before I get to my video tutorial, here are a couple of close-ups.

I was so inspired by the rusting powder this month, I created a 2nd Mixed Media layout.

Here's a peek on how my background came to life.

Apply gesso to chipboard.  Dry.  Spray with several shades of Lindy's Spray.

Draw randomly shaped circles on background.  Paint.

Apply Lindy's Spray with brush, letting mist 'settle' in areas of circles.

Apply adhesive of choice and sprinkle rusting powder on top.  Follow directions on rusting powder to activate rusting.

Finish embellishing layout with stickers and washi tape.  For more interest, outline circles with black and white pens.

'A Blank Canvas' February Edition...

I completely fell in love with the PanPastels in the February Kit this month.  I love how PanPastels blend and mix and the vibrancy of each color.  This layout has so much color, texture, and dimension I really wish you could touch it.  I think we need to invent 'feel a vision' for our blog posts.  Don't you think that would be awesome?

Before I get to my video tutorial, here are a couple of close-ups that really highlight the texture from crackle, modeling paste, and depth of color.

Love how the Kit stamp, from Sin City Stamps, peeks out from the crackle and color.  I stamped the stamp on tissue paper before applying to the background.  Love this technique.

Mixed Media Scrapping with the January Kit

Good morning!

Before I got into mixed media, I was a die hard scrapbooker. I did lots and lots of traditional layouts. When Tina and I were at CHA earlier this month we were talking about our "styles" and how hard it is for both of us to define exactly what ours are. I feel like I am all over the place as far as style, although one thing always carries over in my work--I like to use bright and happy colors. I also noticed that my mixed media style and my scrapbooking style do not blend. My scrapbook layouts never utilize mixed media techniques. They exist completely separate from each other. In this project, I wanted to try and blend the two worlds. I haven't done a true scrapbook page in probably about a year. I was feeling a little blocked this morning and I thought maybe trying something new would help.

To start this page, I chose a sheet of 12 x 12 scrapbook paper that had a collage feel to it. Then I used the tissue from the kit and some matte medium to create another layer of background.

Next, I used a Tim Holtz tag stencil and some metallic paint to add some color to the background. I also brushed on a light wash of gesso to tone down the words on the tissue paper. I added some stamping with the exclusive stamp from the kit and sepia archival ink.

I had to use the new Tim Holtz airbrush tool that I got in his class at CHA. This is the coolest tool ever! I think Tina has plans to carry them in the store as soon as they are available. This thing is a MUST HAVE!!! It's a great way to use your markers and add some light texture in your backgrounds.

I added some layers of paper and distressed the edges with the sepia ink and the new Tim Holtz mini applicator. I used a strip of the accordion paper from the kit in the layers, a playing card from the ephemera pack, and washi tape (from my stash). I also added some details like fussy cut butterflies, a chipboard bird and bead from my stash, and a stamped banner using the new Tim Holtz hashtag stamp set (another "must have").

And here is the finished layout of my daughter :)
