April Mixed Media Kit: Altered Canvas | At the End of the Day...

Hello All! Wendy here to share up my altered canvas titled "At the End of the Day", this month for Frog Dog Studio!  

You can check out my first project this month here where I created a Mixed Media necklace with the April Mixed Media Kit along with a  video tutorial.

My last take this month using the April Add-On kit with Amazing Crafting Products that was just ALL sorts of amazing.ness and team up.  I know my projects using their product will continue WAY beyond this month!  You just want to play play play....

  
So many of the embellishments on my project was created using the Amazing Casting Resin, Amazing Crafting Products Alumilite in Silver Metallic Powder, and Amazing Crafting Products Yellow Dye (not pictured above) along with the Amazing Clear Cast (pictured above).   

I will create up a video tutorial later this week and link you back here on this blog post with the 'behind-the-scenes' into the making into the florals and butterflies for my canvas.

April Mixed Media Kit: Mixed Media Necklace | Self Reflections

Hello All! Wendy here to share up my mixed media necklace titled "Self Reflections", this month for Frog Dog Studio!  

Yes, it's totally wearable.  Hey, nothing like handmade jewelry to put a pep in your step, right? Ha!

I absolutely fell in LOVE with the April Mixed Media Kit because everything coordinated so well together (again this month as I now say this every month, ha!) in such beautiful harmony.  

 

Those tissue papers are just perfect for framing and to.die.for in rich colors of blue, silver, and reds. I was a fan of Staz-On before but with these colors, I'm now a bigger sucker/hoarder.  We have more colors in stock too in the Frog Dog Studio shop...

The April Add-On kit with Amazing Crafting Products is NO exception, definitely a must-have to finish off some rather rad art creations.  Definitely grab it up too!

Just a Tin Box....

Hi and Happy Wednesday!

Tina here today with one of my favorite projects from the March kit, a vintage inspired tin, full of little details and whimsy.

When I first thought about creating my little tin, I wasn’t sure what was going to be included on what products I was going to use, so I started with a piece of the Tim Holtz Foil Tape that was included in the main kit.  

I ran a sheet of the foil tape through my embossing machine, and ‘inked’ it up with Alcohol Ink and Distress Stain.  I removed the adhesive backing and adhered it to the edges of my tin.  Super easy, but created so much texture and color.

Next, I worked on the inside background of my tin.  I cut a piece of the corrugated paper to fit inside my tin, painted it with the Adirondack paint dabber included in the kit and applied adhesive and rusting powder to age.

To Glitz up the inside of my tin, using an embossing dauber, I applied embossing ink and the Sticky Embossing powder to the inside walls of the tin.  I heated the powder to activate the adhesive.

I applied German Glitter Glass from my stash and heated to set it in place.

 

To finish my tin, I applied several strips of the Tim Holtz paper tape included in the kit to the back of my tin, and aged with several shades of Lindy’s spray mist.

The embellishments inside the tin are mostly items from my stash, that were further aged with crackle paint, embossing powder, and alcohol ink.  

As they say, little packages are always the best.  :)

March Mixed Media Kit: Mini Book | In A New York Minute

Hello All! Wendy here to share up my third project this month for Frog Dog Studio!  
One last crush with the March Mixed Media Kit!

Check out my previous project, “In A New York Minute”, and video tutorial here using the 5x2x3.5in tin from the March Mixed Media Kit.  

Also, I made a second project with the  smaller 2.5×3.5x1in tin found here.

As promised earlier this month, I planned to created a mini book to fit inside my altered tin. My fiancé & I took a trip last Spring '13 to NYC, his first time and my 4th time, and each visit is beyond the experience.  I wanted to make a mini that captured my fav photos highlighted from our trip together.  

While in NYC, we made a pit stop at The Ink Pad, the mecca of rubber stamps and just pure stamper's paradise!  So, I added in this Time Squares stamp on the cover of my mini.  It just spoke to me as perfect to kick start my mini.  I could have been spent HOURS in that store and the fiancé was SO patient and supportive to find the store with me in the pouring rain. Ha!

So, let's dive into my mini...

I wanted to enhance my mini with lots of clocks representing the fast pace of the city, the hustle and bustle of movement of people.  I used the corrugated paper that comes in the March Mixed Media Kit for a couple of pages in my mini.  This paper is perfect to rip up and give the worn and tattered look.  There are several clock stickers for perfect use from the Tim Holtz sticker book in the kit.  Then, I also added The Dusty Attic rusting powder (included in the March Mixed Media Kit and here) and Ranger Paint Dabber in Pebble to accent my metal and wood embellishments.

More of the rusting technique is used on these pages for the embossed and metal accents.  Also, I was inspired by the Alicia Keys song, "Empire State of Mind" (I might have been humming it a time or two in creating this project, ha!).  One does feel such inspirations and dreams in this city of bright lights.  

On a side note, I intentionally kept the majority of my photos as black & white for uniformity in the photography with a splash of color on a photo here and there and for better flow of the embellishments.  

The iPhone photo of us two is a bit fuzzy but sometimes fuzzy photos capture the sweetest moment.  We were hitting the town to see "Phantom of the Opera".  The fiancé was quite a bit jet lagged from Europe but was a trooper for the long opera night and dressing up.  I used the ticket stickers from the Tim Holtz sticker book in the kit to represent the cinema/theater night together.
