A fast and easy card project

Hi there! One more rusted paper project from me today, with a little addition to the "simply stencils" series, too. I used the paper piece I had rusted my metal elements on for this card as a background.

I first glued the paper onto the card base, inked the edges with black Distress Ink, applied some mist splatters and drew faux stitching around the edges for additional detail. Next I stamped some chevron patters with black ink onto the background and then cut some dry embossed foil elements and placed them onto the card. After that I I used a stencil as a doodling guide and drew some triangles for additional interest. After that I just added some sticker elements (some glued using foam dots) and wrote the sentiment. Some white ink splatters for additional detail and the card was all done.

A rusted background layout

Hello there! Today I´m sharing with you one more project I used the March mixed media kit for. This time I created a rusted layout background. This is also the very first project to my "simply stencils" series. I use stencils on almost every layout I make and love using them, so you will be seeing more of those on my future projects.

Here is how I did it:

 

I first applied some Glue n´ Seal with a paint brush onto the cardstock and then poured the powder over the "glued" areas. Next I sprayed some white winegar over the powdered areas and let the media react.

And this is the rusted paper result I ended up with! Really, really like this effect alot! I then added some mist splatters here and there as they perfectly matched the rust colour.

 

Next I added some stamping (used a Frog Dog Studio exclusive stamp).

After that I added some circles onto the background for additional detail. Here I used a TCW stencil (by Ronda Palazzari) with black Distress Ink. Love the effect the simple circles create on the background! Now the background was all done and I just needed to add some decoration and the title.

 

I used all the leftover pieces of chipboard, foil tape and corrugated cardboard. Added some sticker elements, some twine, some doodling and some white ink (Liquitex Ink! Titanium white) for detail. This is what the finished layout looks like:

It was so much fun creating this page! I really like the rusting powder on paper!

Pan Pastels, Gelatos, Stamp, Collage! February Kit Happiness!!

The February Kit inspired me in so many ways!  Working with all the elements of Gelatos, Pan Pastels, stamps, and collage, fills my soul.  Makes me happy!!!  The Gelatos and stamps give a strong image, while the Pan Pastels give a soft look.    Mix both for contrast on your layout.  Soft and hard, simple and detailed.  It all adds interest to an art piece.  This is a journal page.

Started out soft with Pan Pastels.  Even with just the pink and green in the kit, you can create a stunning background.  As my other works, I like to do patches of Gelato color - this time I used a damp paint brush to spread the color out and break down the binder.  The Pan Pastels like to adhere themselves to the Gelatos.  A marriage made in heaven!!


I used Sin City Stamps - our partner this month.  Look at stamps in different ways.  I wanted the music so I left the background and collaged over the rose.  Whatever way you decide to use your stamps is the right way to work.

Random stenciling with a contrasting color of Pan Pastels adds a strong contrast.  With the kit, try using the pink for the background and stenciling letters or patterns with the green!  It will look awesome.  Note:  Look at the flowers...they were pink, but made red with Pan Pastels!

Use your tool in the kit and draw the pastel into the stencil, not tapping or just moving over the surface.  Right to left, then left to right.  I like to be hap-hazzard and not use the whole the whole stencil for a free form look.


The "U" chipboard was done by coloring with a Gelato color, then using the damp brush to blend in.  I also used the brush on the end of the Gelato to pick up more color to darken various areas.  With the February Kit, you might want to add some white as a highlight as well.

Fall Beauty-A Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout

Good morning! I have to confess it has been a while since I have created a scrapbook page. I'm not sure where my scrapping mojo has run off to, but I'm beginning to miss it. In the hopes of reviving Monsieur Mojo, I have created this layout of my daughter using the totally fabulous Frog Dog Studio November Paper Add On Kit. :)

As much as I love mixed media (and you may find this as odd as I do), I never incorporate it into my scrapbooking. It's almost like the two must remain separated. I figured I'd give it a go since I always admire this type of scrapping (Tina is an absolute master at this type of thing!)

I started out by covering the page in matte medium and pushing and crumbling the brown tissue paper into it. Then I started spraying away with the Lindy's sprays from the kit.

When that was dry, I just tore up some of the BoBunny papers that I liked from the kit to create a base for my photo. Then I attached the photo, and worked in some Tim Holtz Distress Paint to help blend it in.

I wanted to get some good texture on the background, so I used some Golden Modeling Paste and a few stencils. I just laid down the stencils in random spots and gently scraped on the modeling paste over the top using a catalyst wedge.

Using the stamps from the kit, I stamped around the page randomly, using brown Ranger Archival Ink. When I was satisfied with that, I added some of the BoBunny chipboard pieces. I also didn't want the stark white of the modeling paste, so I went over the page with some more Distress Paint. I wanted everything to blend together. I added a few rubons also just for some extra interest.
