"Simply Stencils" - Art journal pages with the May kit

Hi there! I had a great time playing with the May kit and here are two art journal pages I made (warning!! long and photo heavy post coming up :)...):

btw. these are my first "simply stencils" May projects, but I have a feeling there will be some more coming up :)...

Here are a few details on how I created these two pages. Lets start with the upper one first:
I first covered the paper with white gesso, let it dry and then went on by applying the Fresco Finish translucent paint onto the page (Beach Hut & Pumpkin soup from the kit - more colours on the store). After the paint was dry I sprayed some "New Sprout" spray ink here and there.
I then applied some black artist oil pastel color onto the mask that comes with the kit and placed the mask over the page. Next I just used my finger for rubbing all the color from the mask onto the page.
After that I used some Dina Wakley mixed media stamps with blue Staz-on ink (April kit) and Hero Arts shadow dye ink (cup o´ joe) for stamping random images onto the background.
I then took a piece of vellum book paper that was in the kit and dabbed some fluid chalk ink over it. I just love the soft look these inks create on the vellum. Then I let the ink dry properly.
After the paper was dry I stamped a few stamp images with blue Staz-on ink onto the vellum paper. The stamp is by Dina Wakley (from the Scribbly Birds set).
Next I just glued the vellum piece "into" the typewriter and added some doodling and ink splatters.
Here are some detail photos:

Here are some step-by-step photos of the second page:
I again used the Fesco paints and a green oil pastel pen for the background.
Next I used the pastel peach chalk ink for creating flower patterns.
Then I mixed some molding paste with the blue Fesco paint to create a light blue paste and applied it over the stencil using a palette knife.
Then I went and outlined the flowers with a black Copic brush pen.
After that I took a dry embossing folder and placed a piece of vellum paper over it and then scratched some green oil pastel colour onto the paper. This way you can "copy" the pattern onto the paper. I remember using this technique with coins and a pencil when I was small :). I then used this piece for creating a typewrite sheet for my page. As you will see on the main photo, I later changed the colour to yellow, as I didn´t quite like the green rose pattern.

Here are some close-up photos of the second page. As you can see I´ve also added some oil pastels over the flowers to create more depth and separated the two background colours from each other by creating a doodled leaf pattern.
There are also some black and white doodled accents here and there on the page and I have outlined the stencil pattern with a thin black pen for more contrast.

Have fun with your May!
xoxo, Sanna

Amazing Inspiration

AMAZING CRAFTING PRODUCTS this month with Frog Dog Studio!  It is a wonderful Add On Kit!  These are essential mixed media products by Alumilite Corporation, http://www.moldputty.com

To Clipboard or not to Clipboard, that is the question!!  In this post, I created one clipboard art, but the clip is more of an accent than to hold anything.  The second is inspirational art.  I love quotes, affirmations, mantras.  These works of art can be made and kept in a box like a deck of card.  Pull one out every day for instant inspiration!

The board is Gesso'd as the base, then layers of the gold ink is painted.  Some painting is done thinly, and some painting has splotches and puddles of color.

The image is collaged, with the StazOn in red.  Next I dusted the whole piece (except parts of the face) with  Alumilite Gold Metallic Powder, and Alumindust in Red Plum.    Look at how I was able to subtly shade the face with the gold and red plum.

The mica fragments were tinted with paint, adhered to the art, and more gold ink and red plum powder added.  The clip itself was painted thickly with the gold ink and glazed with paint.

I really love treasures I have that I can mold and cast with Amazing Mold Putty and Amazing Casting Resin!

Even my Epic Fails work as accents in my art.  The accents on this art piece is a fail that was in pieces and I painted them with the gold ink and added them to my surface.  The gold ink is randomly added to some of the gold on the tissue paper.

I printed inspiration on vellum and added to the surface.  A stamp image added for feeling.  Gelly Roll Pens were used to to fill in colors on the stamped image.

The blue StazOn was swiped on the background and blended with my finger as well as a lighter blue paint pounced around the area.

Find treasures such as charms, small sculptures, buttons, any object you can wrap the Amazing Mold Putty around and create a mold.  Brush Alumilite Metallic Powders or Alumindust into the mold before casting.  Alumilite dyes can be added to the Amazing Clear Cast Resin for personalized shades.

The mummy and column was casted using embossing enamels and Alumindust painted inside the mold before pouring the enamel in it.

Click the link at the top of this post to find great tutorials and information/tips for Amazing Crafting Products.  Easy to use, but I found the tips very helpful.

One of the best tips is to NOT press the item right into the molding putty when activate, but to roll the putty from one end of the item to the other, and gently press for a flat bottom.  The putty will be evenly distributed that way.

Also be mindful of the humidity in your area.  The more humidity requires just a little bit more drying time.

Until next time and more April Goodness - - -

Playful Musing August - Anchor's Anthem

Lea here, with some Playful Fun for August!!  I am sooo in love with the August Kit - all the embellishments, the collage images, the Glitter Paste, Inka Gold, and the rest!!

I have decided to have you play along with me and not show you the finished project until the bottom.  If you want to play along, please do not scroll all the way down at first, scroll step by step and follow along.  Remember, your art doesn't have to be just like mine...these are ideas to help feed your Muse.

This month focuses on ATC's - Artist Trading Cards.  Creating a lot in a little space is a fun challenge!

Supplies:

August Kit:
Anchor
ATC Blank
(Any parts you want to add)

Other Supplies:
Acrylic Paints (Mica Paint Used)
Piece of Sponge
Handmade paper
Soft Brush
Scrap of old artwork
Word Stamp (Be True, Viva Las Vegastamps)
Helmar 450 Quick Drying Adhesive
Mica Watercolors (or plain watercolors or thinned paint)
permanent black Ink
Chipboard (UmWow Studio)

Sponge gold acrylic paint over the surface of the ATC.  I used an acrylic with mica paint which makes the surface shimmery!

Sponge other colors over the gold acrylic.  Sponge the colors randomly, adding texture and depth over the gold.  Let dry.  Optional:  Blend colors into the gold for a smooth appearance.

Pink homemade paper or tissue paper - use a damp brush to go around an area of the paper, then rip it with your fingers.  The edge will be natural, with fibers around the edges.

Find a scrap of artwork you trimmed off and saved (Yes, I save scraps from artwork and my paper I used to protect my work surface.).  I have a stenciled piece of artwork, that I trimmed.  Adhere a piece of the pink paper, then adhere the scrap artwork on top.  A brayer was used to make sure there was tight contact to the surface.  Add more of the pink paper - use the damp brush if you need to rip off more paper.

Stamp a saying on paper. I liked the second stamping where it is over some blue left over from another project.

Color the words with marker of your choice - I used Copic Markers.  Cut out.

Adhere the red anchor from the kit onto the artwork.  Optional:  Chipboard pieces - 2 chevrons, paint and adhere to artwork.

The finished piece looks aged and antiqued, yet has pops of colors to make it modern.

I would LOVE to see what you create!!  Please post your finished art on the Facebook Frog Dog Studio Fan Page.  I can't wait to see!
