Wild

Hello again! I´ve got one more project to share with you this month and this is also my second contribution this month to my "simply stencils" series. Here is a little layout idea for your inspiration:

I first chose a stencil I would like to create a background patter with and placed it over a piece of white cardstock. I then applied some grey stamp ink (using a blending tool) thru the stencil. That created a really nice triangle pattern.

Next I sprayed the whole background with a yellow Lindy´s Stamp Gang spray ink (Yellow Rose of Texas).

Next I wanted to create a colour border underneath the photo, so I took several colours of Lindy´s Stamp Gang´s spray inks and randomly sprayed them onto the background next to each other. I let them create droplets quite freely (used tones: Magnolia Magenta Gold, Smoky Sapphire, Ramblin´ Rose Pink, Steampunk Sepia and Shabby Turbine Teal).

I then used a Hero Arts cling stamp and stamped with the blue Midi Staz-On ink right above the colour border.

Now that my background was done I just needed to add the title and some embellishments. I had chosen some wooden letters for the title, but only had two that were suitable. I therefore used the Tim Holtz Clear Fragments, a copic black pen and a woodgrain paper to create similar looking alphas for my title.

The round canvas pieces are colored with Lindy´s spray inks (I used pretty much the same colours like on the droplets. I then stamped with a text stamp and blue Staz-On ink over them and finally added some Liquitex Titanium white ink droplets here and there. The stars I created with the Amazing Mold Putty and Amazing Casting Resin. Once they were ready for use, I covered them with IZINK golden ink and some Alumilite Silver Metallic Powder.

Finally I just wrote the journaling around the edges of the paper and my layout was done! I hope you liked this little inspirational project!
See you next month :),

Just a Tin Box....

Hi and Happy Wednesday!

Tina here today with one of my favorite projects from the March kit, a vintage inspired tin, full of little details and whimsy.

When I first thought about creating my little tin, I wasn’t sure what was going to be included on what products I was going to use, so I started with a piece of the Tim Holtz Foil Tape that was included in the main kit.

I ran a sheet of the foil tape through my embossing machine, and ‘inked’ it up with Alcohol Ink and Distress Stain.  I removed the adhesive backing and adhered it to the edges of my tin.  Super easy, but created so much texture and color.

Next, I worked on the inside background of my tin.  I cut a piece of the corrugated paper to fit inside my tin, painted it with the Adirondack paint dabber included in the kit and applied adhesive and rusting powder to age.

To Glitz up the inside of my tin, using an embossing dauber, I applied embossing ink and the Sticky Embossing powder to the inside walls of the tin.  I heated the powder to activate the adhesive.

I applied German Glitter Glass from my stash and heated to set it in place.

To finish my tin, I applied several strips of the Tim Holtz paper tape included in the kit to the back of my tin, and aged with several shades of Lindy’s spray mist.

The embellishments inside the tin are mostly items from my stash, that were further aged with crackle paint, embossing powder, and alcohol ink.

As they say, little packages are always the best.  :)

I hope you enjoyed my project today.  Thank you for stopping by!

Have a great week!

Playful Musings: Mixed The Mix Media!

When looking at this photo above, you can easily see the obvious mixed media.  Wood frame, pictures and decorative papers, and metal pieces.

Mixing the mixed media takes your art one step further!!  The wood is sprayed with Lindy's Mists, then accents with an ink pad, then paint to add the purple shading.

The Tim Holtz Ideaology Stickers have a slick surface but using Distressed inks and Lindy's Mist can enhance the slick surface further.  Wipe off some of the color and let the liquid dissipate in the air. A final zap with a heat tool will set the colors.

The moments metal sentiment has been further aged with the Pinata alcohol ink.  Work the ink onto the surface.  Then use Brilliance ink to pop out part of the word "Moments."  Heat set with a heat tool.

Around the inside edge of the frame has an added metallic feel with leafing foil burnished on the surface.

The Tim Holtz Ideaology tickets are aged by themselves, but one can mix the mixed media to further enhance the ticket to even match the art you are designing!

Start with Pinata alcohol ink and lightly cover the surface.  Use a colorless blender pen (Xylene), and remove most of the ink leaving spots of shade and ghosting.  Lastly add paint, like the ticket fell and picked up some of the color.

The little metal piece has wire and then Lindy's Mist.  It takes a bit for the liquid to dissipate or zap it with a heat tool.  Accent with Brilliance ink and zap again with heat tool.

The key is also enhanced with Pinata inks, Lindy's Mist, and Brilliance ink.

Melissa's Texture Tip: Dream As If You'll Live Forever--Mixed Media Tag featuring Lindy's

Good morning everyone! Today I am excited to share with you a quick and easy tag that I created featuring Lindy's spray inks and product from our March kit.

Texture Tip: To begin this project, I ran the foil paper through my Cuttlebug with an embossing plate to create a really nice background texture. The embossing plate combined with the metal look of the tape really create a nice texture without adding a lot of weight to the piece. When that was done, I added several different alcohol inks to create a stained glass effect.

For the next step, I used an applicator to spread some black Distress ink over the entire piece to tone it down a bit.

Then, I used the gold Lindy's spray from our kit and sprayed the entire tag with it. I crumpled the tag to create some more texture, and covered a chipboard angel with the black ink from the kit. I also added a gear covered in ink from the kit, and one of the arrow brads.

I attached the embossed foil piece and added some vintage resin covered paper from my stash, as well as a bit of pink rosette ribbon to the tag. A piece of ribbon was also dyed with ink to match the tag.

And here is the finished tag:

The Imperfection of Beauty

This kit is SO filled with creative product to play with.  I designed with some of kit for this post, and the rest for my Playful Musings later this month!

Taking a silver tin and turning it into a patina, rusted piece seems complex but really it isn't.  As always, I love layering, and this is a matter of layering and building up the look of aged metal!

One might want to start by using Gesso to base coat the tin.  I skipped that because I used a VersaMagic reinker and sponge to give the base of the patina color.

I next used the Golden Doubloons and sprayed liberally over the surface.  You will notice puddles of the mist, just let it be and it will dry by the liquid "dissipating into the air."  The different puddles gives wonderfully natural effects.

A bit of the Pebble paint dauber is used randomly to further the effect of old metal showing through the patina.  Following the instructions, (vinegar is needed) I rusted over other areas of the tin.  The rusting powder goes through the paint and adds such a yummy and textural effect!

Finally, as I was going through my Ranger stash, I came across an embossing powder that I haven't used in years.  It added an additional textural accent.  Older Frog Dog kits has amazing embossing powder that matches this technique as well as Ranger glitter to add a different look.  Having a membership to Frog Dog insures you get the kits each month so you don't miss out!  (Ok, a commercial but the kits sell out fast so if you like the products this makes sure you can have them and enjoy!).

The Lindy's sprays and rusting powder was used on the little word band to give the look.  A metallic paint was also used for enhancement.

The chipboard was done much the same way as the word band.  I sprayed, painted, sprayed, used the rusting powder on the one gear only.  Used the metal brad plus another brad of my own.

Having a great time with Amazing Crafting Products!  On the inside of the tin, I continued to age and create a rusty look by using a Buddha statue and Amazing Mold Putty to make a mold for this wonderful face.  Loving the Lindy's Mists.  I used one from another kit and the current kit.  The background is accented mulberry paper with stains.  Amazing Crafting Products are by the Alumilite Corporation.  More ideas are on their blog, http://amazingmoldputty.blogspot.com

The inside is my personal statement to match the word band of "embrace imperfection."  I find that the most beautiful things in the world (people included) are not perfect.  There is a level of character and wonder in things not exact!  I follow how I create my art in such a manner.  I like the unexpected!!!

I don't expect us to withdraw totally from civilization, but when I design my art, I do withdraw into my own world.

My Playful Musings will focus on Memorabilia and aging wood!

Gear Canvas...

Hello and Happy Thursday!

Tina here today with a canvas that screams Mixed Media!

This month, Frog Dog Studio will be cross-promoting with Sin City Stamps.  There are 2 fabulously romantic stamps in the February Kit, but Sin City also has amazing chipboard and stencils.

Today, I'd like to share with you a project I created with Gears Chipboard pieces, PanPastels, Lindy's Sprays and Magicals, and all kinds of steampunk goodness.

I want to apologize in advance for my post.  I got so excited when I was creating this project, I completely forgot to take photos of each step.  (I really need to just put the video recorder on when creating).  So, I will attempt to talk you through each steps.

{I am considering doing a class showing my creative process in detail.  If you'd be interested, I'd love to know.}

Step One:
Cover burlap canvas with Gesso.  I left areas of the burlap 'un-gesso'd' for interest.

Step Two:
Using a stencil, add modeling paste to several areas of background.

Step Three:
Using several shades of PanPastels, cover background.  I really love how the PanPastels 'grab' the canvas, creating awesome texture.  I WILL be doing this technique again.

Next use several sprays, spray canvas background.  I used golds, oranges, tans, and dark browns for my background.  (using the dark brown sparingly)

Step Four:
Cover Gear chipboard pieces with Gesso.

Step Five:
Once the Gesso has dried, cover each with PanPastels, layering colors.  Fix with hairspray, fixative, or water.

Step Six:
Cover burlap canvas and individual gear chipboard pieces with wax medium.  This is one of  my favorite steps.  I really love how the wax 'interacts' with the color and texture and sets it all in place.

Step Seven:
Glue gear chipboard pieces in place.  Let dry completely.

Step Eight:
Mix Lindy's Stamp Gang magicals with Gel Medium and randomly cover areas of canvas and gears.  These are the areas that have a red appearance.

Step Nine:
Using found objects, such as small metal gears, numbers, and watch pieces, cover each with more of the Magical mixture.  Adhere to background.

I also used one of the Prima dominos included in the February kit for one of my found objects.

Step Ten:
Add more spray randomly, accenting different areas of the canvas.  Let pool and puddle for a great grungy look.

Step Eleven:
Highlight areas with Gold Inka Gold.

And you are finished!  It is really hard to show the texture and dimension in photos.  I really wish there was feel-a-vision!  ;)

I will be framing and hanging this canvas in my art studio!  Love!

I wish to thank Sin City Stamps for creating amazing chipboard.  If you get a chance, hop on over to their store and check out all of their goodies!

Thanks for stopping by!
