Covering Up the Ugly!

Good morning! Melissa here with a quick tutorial using some more of the fun Catherine Scanlon coloring pages in your art journal.

Now I don't know about you, but I have a few pages in my art journal that are just plain old ugly. Every time I flip through the book and see them I feel like ripping them out. Sometimes I wonder "what the heck was I thinking??!" Art gone bad. REAL bad.

As I was working on coloring these pages I was trying to think of what to do with them afterwards. Then I thought about those disaster pages and thought "I will just crop the edges of the coloring pages, then glue them over the hideousness. Brilliant! :)

When I first got the pages I thought it would be fun to color them all with different mediums. In my first post, I used the watercolors from the kit. For the second page I did, I decided to use Silks acrylics. If you've never used them before, they are really a visual treat. The colors are so vibrant! Using a small stick tool, I colored the entire page with bright and fun colors.

Of course I mixed in a bit of the gel pen from the kit as well as the glitter.

For the third page, I used Prismacolor pencils. They are perfect for coloring, they go on very smooth and the color is beautiful.

When they were all done, I cropped all of the edges off and then used matte medium to glue them right into my art journal.

As a final touch, I stamped a sentiment onto one of the pages and did a little blending of the edges so it all looks cohesive on the page.

I vote these journal pages as "Most Improved!"

Thanks for stopping by :)

Halloween Artful Shrine

Hello...Martha Richardson back again with a quick Halloween Artful Shrine to
share using the perfect embellishments from the FDS Oct. Kit.
I love making mini shrines for different holidays,
they are fast and also stash busters!

To create the base for this I used the Artful Shrine Art Parts from Studio 490 by Wendy Veechi that I had on hand since I had already used the Residences Art Parts from the Oct. kit.

I first applied glitter to the various black cat, spider webs and shrine. I did a little wire-wrapping with the beads. Once everything was dry the fun part started...arranging all my tid-bits into a pleasing arrangement. I originally wanted to use both of the picture frames for this project however when I went to assemble it it was just TOO much.
Besides using the kit embellishments I also used buttons, alphabet bards, chipboard, glitter, transparencies, lampwork bead, plastic spider and paper from my stash...yay!

I had so much fun working with this months products. I got to use products that I've never tried before. The concept of a mixed-media kit is a fabulous way to try out new products and the kits from Frog Dog Studio allow one to do that! I would love to know what you've created from this months kit.

ENABLER ALERT: YOU will want the Nov. Kit!!

Thank you for stopping by and make sure you stop by to see the rest of the projects from the Design Team. Hope you have a creative week.
