November Guest Designer, Sanna Lippert, Part 2

Hello and Happy Tuesday!

Our Guest Designer, Sanna Lippert is back with more projects!  We seriously love her creativity and are so happy she created more today!

Let's get right to her projects!

For this page I also first colored the background with yellow watercolor and let it dry properly

I chose to color this page with markers since the page is very detailed and full of images. I thought it would be fun to really play with color on this one. The great thing about the pearlescent watercolor palette is that even when you go over it with markers, the shine still stays there. I really, really like this fast alot!! 

 

 

After I had finished coloring the images with markers I added details with the glaze, soufflé and glitter pens here and there. 

 

I really like how this page turned out – so cheerful and full of colors!! 

 

 

Really love the colors!

Here's another project from Sanna.  Enjoy!

There was this really nice cover sheet on the coloring page package and as I was looking at it, the twigs kind off reminded me of a Christmas tree so I went und fussy cut a part of that cover page and colored it with markers.

After that I applied some Glossy Accents here and there for additional shine

And since it is a Christmas card, I thought that I might as well go on adding shiny stuff, so I chose a nice glitter ribbon for additonal decoration.

Next I took a leftover piece of kraft cardstock and stamped a Christmas sentiment with VersaMark on it, applied golden embossing powder over it and heated it with a heating tool.
 

Finally I chose a chipboard element (small Christmas tree) from my stash, applied some red Distress Glitter over it and let it dry. I also glued a piece of leftover paper behind it and added some yellow Distress Glitter here and there.

Finally I just added some faux stitching around the card for additional detail and my card was finished.

And one final project from Sanna.  Isn't she rockin the kit?

For my last project I used similar techniques like on the previous pages. I first created a light watercolor background for my page and then went in and colored the flowers with light apricot color.

 

 

I however didn´t like the result I had created so I went and colored the flowers again. This time with red markers and then outlined them with a black pen.

 

After that I applied some red and yellow Distress Glitter over them for more dimension. I "colored" the little cute swirl patterns using various colors of Dimensional- and Liquid Pearls, let those dry and added some details with Glaze pen´s here and there.

 

 

I also wanted to have some hearts on this page, so I drew some with a black pen, colored those with a pink marker and outlined them using a blue Glaze pen that was in the kit.

 

 

Finally I just chose a suitable quote, wrote it down with a black Sharpie and my last page was finished. I did not bind these pages to my art journal yet, since I´m thinking of maybe framing them and putting them on my studio wall on display.

Playful Musings: Thankful for Flowers

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I am thankful for nature and flowers.  Magically in patterns, breathtaking in colors.

The November kit is filled with all sorts of color, texture and inspiration to fill your mind's eye when expressing nature.  The Pearlescent watercolors gives a more transparent shimmer, and the Souffle Pens give an opaque more pearl look.  These are perfect for Catherine Scanlon's Coloring Pages!  Add Glossy Accents to adhere "Prills."

Using all the different products give many levels of color, transparency and shimmer.  I wish you could see how beautiful the different areas shimmer in various ways! I used both Souffle' Pens and Gelly Roll Pens. For the orange and yellows, I used Lindy's spray and inks from my stash and October kit. I LOVE the way the colors blend and mix.  Prills were adhered with Glossy Accents.  Just squeeze a puddle of the Glossy Accents and put the Prills in place with a small scoop. Remember, past kits work wonderfully with newer kits!!!  

The edges of the page is done in Pearlized White.  I will be mounting the page on mat board and displaying.

Although the outlines are predetermined for you, using the Niji Pearlized Watercolors, and Lindy's Sprays/Inks allow you to be more playful and free with your design.  Don't be so worried about staying in the lines - let nature flow!!!  Look at the closeup pictures and you can see how lovely all the colors are.

The splashes of color represent (to me) how the light splashes different shades picked up from the original color.  You see a rainbow.

Notice there is a mix of cool and warm colors that contrast and help balance the composition.  Warm colors are like the sun - hot, the yellows, reds, etc.  The cool colors are like the ocean and sky, blues, purples, etc.  In-between is greens!  As you work, decide which mix of colors you want to use so you that you can mix up warm and cool colors for contrast.

Optional adds:  Use the Tim Holtz Glitter in the dot areas, or centers of flowers.  Following the dots isn't important, you can do the Glossy Accents over the dots like a flourish and the glitter will stay in place there.

The weather may be turning cooler but color can make everything shine.  The Niji Pearlescent Watercolors has several shades of coppers, golds, blues, greens, so it will ALL Match every season you want to create art with.

Covering Up the Ugly!

Good morning! Melissa here with a quick tutorial using some more of the fun Catherine Scanlon coloring pages in your art journal.

Now I don't know about you, but I have a few pages in my art journal that are just plain old ugly. Every time I flip through the book and see them I feel like ripping them out. Sometimes I wonder "what the heck was I thinking??!" Art gone bad. REAL bad.

As I was working on coloring these pages I was trying to think of what to do with them afterwards. Then I thought about those disaster pages and thought "I will just crop the edges of the coloring pages, then glue them over the hideousness. Brilliant! :)

When I first got the pages I thought it would be fun to color them all with different mediums. In my first post, I used the watercolors from the kit. For the second page I did, I decided to use Silks acrylics. If you've never used them before, they are really a visual treat. The colors are so vibrant! Using a small stick tool, I colored the entire page with bright and fun colors.

Of course I mixed in a bit of the gel pen from the kit as well as the glitter.

For the third page, I used Prismacolor pencils. They are perfect for coloring, they go on very smooth and the color is beautiful.

When they were all done, I cropped all of the edges off and then used matte medium to glue them right into my art journal.

As a final touch, I stamped a sentiment onto one of the pages and did a little blending of the edges so it all looks cohesive on the page.

I vote these journal pages as "Most Improved!"

Letter It! -with Catherine Scanlon's Art Journaling Coloring Book

Frog Dog's Exclusive Catherine Scanlon Art Journaling Coloring Book

...Along with many other "juicy" products from our November Kit!

...and I MEAN JUICY!!  Wait til you try the Sakura Glaze and Souffle pens!

But, I'm getting ahead of myself...sorry.  I get a little excited about great pens, and Tina gave us such an assortment this month!

My Coloring page started out with a layer of the color from our Niji Pearlescent Watercolor Set.  I used a mister to saturate the color with water, and then took a damp sponge brush to load on the paint.

I used a paper towel to "blot" some of the excess water, and create some "highs & lows." 

For the "Quote Box" I loaded a more concentrated amount of water color to the brush (more color less water) to create a darker area for the words I would add later.

ISN'T THE SHIMMER IN THESE WATERCOLORS SO COOL?!

Next, I added some color with the glaze pens. (did I mention how JUICY they are?!!)

Below you can see the turquoise and hunter green.

I used a brush to add the glossy accents to the flower center in order to "catch" the Distress Glitter and hold it in place.

Below, is the healthy "scoop"of glitter I poured into the middle.

I did each flower this way.

The Distress Glitter has such a unique color and texture.  

You can really get a good look in the picture below.

Above, you can see the JUICE actually being squeezed:)

If you look closely, you can also see the 3 dimensional affect the ink adds...

I really LOVE these pens!

Above, I added some lines within the box, using the Turquoise Glaze.

-With an XS Black Pitt Multi liner pen, I "boxed" in each of the Turquoise lines 

I had already drawn.

...then added the vertical lines as well...these would "house" my words.

Above, is an example of "thickening" each letter, and then adding a "triangle" to the top and bottom of the vertical lines.

The blue lines were drawn "haphazardly" with bends and curves.  When letters are contained with these "wonky" lines, their width and height move with them.

Start out with simple "unimpressive" letters...just your natural writing.

Then when you add the combination of varying height, thickness, and triangle ends, the letters become ARTISTIC!

You can "throw" in some cursive letters...all CAPS, or all lower case.

Vary each word.

The page needed a border, so this is an easy but dramatic choice.

I happened to have a Glaze pen in black, so I alternated the 

Black Glaze with the White Souffle.

(beetle juice! beetle juice! beetle juice!)

Did you hear the news that there is going to be a "BEETLE JUICE" SEQUEL?!

The last detail I added, was the White Souffle Centers to some of the letters. It's such a simple thing, but it really helps the words stand out on the page.
