Let's see what the Frog Dog Studio team created today!

Design Team member Keri Babbitt shares our first project today.  Here's what she has to say!

I used LuminArte Silks Acrylic Glaze in African Jade, Carmen, Fern, Ice, & Solar Gold for this holiday layout.  I also used Viva Colour Modeling Cream in Pearl.

Designer Techniques:

1.  After applying a thin coat of African Jade over kraft paper, I dipped a small paintbrush into the paint, and flicked thick lines in a random pattern.  I love the tone-on-tone look this creates!

2.  The chipboard strips were created by mixing glitter into the Pearl modeling cream, and applying with a palette knife.  I created a shimmery, two-toned finish on the raw chipbboard by applying a thin layer of Ice glaze, followed by blotting on Solar Gold in some areas.

3.  The acrylic stamps from the Frog Dog December kit work so well with the Silks Acrylic Glaze.  I applied both African Jade and Fern to the stamps with a foam brush before stamping, to create a lightly variegated image.

Designer Tip:  The Silks glazes layer so well on a variety of surfaces.  On this project alone, I applied it to canvas, chipboard, wood, and both matte and glossy paper.

Our next project share is by Design Team member Tina Walker.  She created an Colorful Canvas full of texture!

I really love creating canvases, starting with a bright, colorful background.  My canvas background starts it's colorful journey with several colors of Luminarte Acrylic Silks.  I layered Silks in a random manner, covering the entire canvas in color.  Silks are semi-transparent, so when you layer colors on top of each other, you get a great depth of color.

When the Silks were dry, I added Glitter Paste with one of my favorite The Crafters Workshop stencil to my background.  The Glitter Paste 'pulls' the Silks color, thereby 'coloring' the Glitter Paste.  This is one of my favorite techniques when using Silks.

After the Glitter Paste dried, I cut a circle template with my Silhouette Cameo, then traced the circles on my background.  Using Distress Paint in Picket Fence, I painted around each circle, allowing the color of the Silks and Glitter Paste to POP out in the circles.  (I painted several coats of Distress Paint to matte out the color outside the circles).  Since Distress Paint also has semi-transparent properties, subtle hints of color still peeked through the white.

I outlined each circle with a Black China Marker, then a Charcoal Stick.  (Spray the Charcoal with fixative to prevent it from smearing).  After a spritz of fixative, I outlined each circle with a White China Marker.

Have you tried Luminarte Acrylic Silks?  We would love to know what you think about them.

Be sure and hop on over to the Splash of Color Blog to see what their Design Team is sharing today!

Remember to leave a comment on both the Frog Dog Studio blog and the Splash of Color blog each day for a chance to win!  Stop by tomorrow for our final day for projects from 2 more Designers.
