Playful Musings: Mixed The Mix Media!

When looking at this photo above, you can easily see the obvious mixed media.  Wood frame, pictures and decorative papers, and metal pieces.

Mixing the mixed media takes your art one step further!!  The wood is sprayed with Lindy's Mists, then accents with an ink pad, then paint to add the purple shading.

The Tim Holtz Ideaology Stickers have a slick surface but using Distressed inks and Lindy's Mist can enhance the slick surface further.  Wipe off some of the color and let the liquid dissipate in the air. A final zap with a heat tool will set the colors.

The moments metal sentiment has been further aged with the Pinata alcohol ink.  Work the ink onto the surface.  Then use Brilliance ink to pop out part of the word "Moments."  Heat set with a heat tool.

Around the inside edge of the frame has an added metallic feel with leafing foil burnished on the surface.

The Tim Holtz Ideaology tickets are aged by themselves, but one can mix the mixed media to further enhance the ticket to even match the art you are designing!

Start with Pinata alcohol ink and lightly cover the surface.  Use a colorless blender pen (Xylene), and remove most of the ink leaving spots of shade and ghosting.  Lastly add paint, like the ticket fell and picked up some of the color.

The little metal piece has wire and then Lindy's Mist.  It takes a bit for the liquid to dissipate or zap it with a heat tool.  Accent with Brilliance ink and zap again with heat tool.

The key is also enhanced with Pinata inks, Lindy's Mist, and Brilliance ink.

Love is the flower you've have to let grow....

Hello and Happy Monday!

Tina here today with the first December project share!

Before we get to my projects, let's take a peek at the December Mixed Media kit again!

There are so many options when creating with this kit, I wasn't sure where to start.  I was really drawn to the Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements, so I thought I start there.

I pulled out a 12x12 Flat Panel canvas that I had been playing with and several squares of the Tim Holtz fabric.  I thought I'd create a flower canvas, using the fabric as the base for my flowers.

I drew several flower shapes on a piece of paper, then cut them out to use as a template.

I placed the flower shapes on my canvas, then adhered them using matte medium.

Once they were dry, I used Distress Paint, (in Picket Fence) and covered up the background.  Since Distress Paints are transparent, the create color and texture that was previously added to my canvas is still visible through the white paint. 

Using Faber Castell Big Brush Pens, I added texture and more color to each flower and throughout my background.

I cut several leaf shapes from the fabric and de-constructed the Maya Road ribbon from the kit to create stems for my flowers.  I adhered them to the canvas with Matte Medium.

I wanted my flowers to have a bit more POP of color, so using water downed Distress Paint, I painted each flower, leaves, and stems in bright, colorful tones.

To add more texture and dimension, I outlines each element with Oil Pastels.  I love how these look on my mixed media canvases.

I finished my canvas off with a sentiment!

Once I got going with this canvas, I created several additional Home Decor projects.

I mixed the Modeling Creme with Lindy's Magicals to create the texture on this project.  I also used Viva Decor Inka Gold to accent the texture.

I bought this metal shrine on a recent trip and covered it with layers of gesso and Modeling Creme.  I simply LOVE how this turned out!  Lots of Distress Glitter, Alcohol Ink, and Distress Ink to create the vintage look.

MY BIRD HOUSE

For this mixed media project I used the coaster album that comes with the Maya Road Memory Box. When I create any project I literally lay out all the products I want to use and spend time, hours or days, walking by and looking at them while my idea comes clear in my mind's eye. I never have a plan until I can see it and how it will come together. Then I get to work...often my projects evolve through the process but they look pretty close to what I've intended them to be.

I love how I can match my metal hinges with my project using the DISTRESS Paint.

I'm thrilled with my Bird House...sometimes I need to encourage myself and this sits on my Art Journal desk as a reminder. I'll be back with a fun art journal page on Mon. 7/22...I hope you will check back to see what I've created.
