Phone Booth Fun with Amazing Crafting Products!

I continue to work on my phone booth pages as I design with Genuinely Jane Wood Books.  I wanted to point out the etheral face that I made with Amazing Mold Putty!  Amazing Crafting Products    include the mold putty, resins, dyes, and powders!!!

Here is the whole page!!!  I used my Geli Plate (if you need one the FDS store might have a kit left) and created this 2 stage printed design.  I used parts from the kit and created my molded piece as an element.

This is the photo from the back of the box.  The video on AMP site is very helpful and there are a lot of tips for creating your mold.  It is really easy!

Tips that helped me were:

A.  Measure each part of putty to be mixed together by 1/2 the size of the piece.  That is 1/2 the size in yellow and 1/2 the size in white.  If you have a little too much that is better than too little.

B.  Instead of just "mushing" the item into the putty, I read that to roll it on from one side to the other gives you even coverage without one part being too thin.  Then you can press the bottom on a hard surface to give it a flat bottom.

C.  Humidity.  If you live in a humid area, don't fret!  It does take more time for the mold and resin to cure, so I like to pour my resin and walk away for several hours - it is not necessary but I am so impatient.

See the above mold!  If I had added  a little more of each compound it would be perfect.  As it is, it is almost foolproof this mold came out great!!!  The resin used was NOT the clear so it dries white.  You can choose the clear or regular resin.

Be sure to watch the videos on mixing and pouring the resin.  It is easy as making a mold.  Both the mold and resin require a Part A and Part B and heat is the catalyst to making it work.  YES you are a scientist designer!

Going back to the face, I painted it with a metallic blue paint first.  Then I used an Allumilite Metallic Powder and brushed it over the top.  I so adore the look!!!  It adds a contrast to the element.  You can brush the powder into your mold before even pouring the resin.  Automatic metallic looks.


Altering wood books and creating your own elements with Amazing Crafting Products is too much fun.  The ideas are Endless.  Follow your dreams and create to your hearts content.

Phone Booth Fun Page 2!

Page 2 of my Genuinely Jane wood phone booth book is done still in purple but a bit darker.  Accents are red ink from the January kit.

I started out by using Clearsnap Colorbox Pigment inks and their applicator to add color to the wood.  I was able to get rich color without Gesso!  I used a light and dark purple.

Red ink accents the edge and will around the edges.  The SPECIAL stamp sent to subscribers is what I used to stamp with the Clearsnap Mixed Media ink.  A little ink goes a LONG way - it's real nice and juicy!!!

Accented the collage image with Plaid's chalk palettes.    I tore the folded papers from the kit and added them.  I used the red Liquitex ink and added a bit of water and painted over the folded papers.

Other elements from the January kit including the other stamp sheet, and the #2!!

Photo Booth Fanatic!

Good morning everyone! Today I wanted to share with you my take on the fabulously fun Photo Booth wooden album from Genuinely Jane in this month's Frog Dog Studio Kit.

To begin, I took the album apart to make it easier to work on each block at a time. On the main block (the front of the album) I began by coloring the entire piece with the Liquitex acrylic ink in the kit. I also did some distressing with the black mixed media ink pad also found in the kit. Then I set it aside to dry.

Moving on to the second piece, I colored that one with the blue acrylic ink from the kit. Then I used a stencil, a palette knife, and the modeling creme from last month's kit to create a very textured background.

Moving on to the next piece, I covered the entire background with the tissue paper in the kit and some matte medium. Then I added acrylic paint to create the background. When that was dry, I used the telephone wire stamp and the black mixed media ink to create my focal point. I also did some light stamping in the background using the phone directory stamp (which is now one of my favorite stamps for adding texture and interest to a background!)

For the final block of the album, I used some of the goodies from the ephemera pack in the kit to create the background. I also used two of the new Tim Holtz layering tag stencils (found in the Frog Dog Studio store) and some acrylic paint to add layers and interest. At this point this is how all of my blocks looked with the backgrounds done:

I kind of got lost in my process at this point and didn't take many more pics. What I did was add a strip of the accordion book paper behind the booth "window", as well as a poker chip, a key, and some more stamping. I also found some clip art to use for two of the pieces and attached those with matte medium.

Phone Booth Fun with Genuinely Jane Board Books!

It's 2014!!!  Happy New Years!!!  Time to step out of the creative box and try some new mix media techniques.  I love Frog Dog Studios because the kits give me everything to play with!

Frog Dog has partnered with Genuinely Jane Studios this month.  There will be a blog hop starting on January 23rd, so be watching!!

I am designing with the phone booth (Ala' Dr. Who) from this month's kit.  Most time I like to work with GJS (Genuinely Jane Studios) wood books without applying Gesso.  The board is smooth and I like the texture showing through.  But for this particular work, I've used Gesso so I can ink the surface easily.
Last year I had a couple design projects with their wood books and loved the outcome.  I will post some ideas on the 15th.

Light and dark ink as well as the red ink in the kit was used to set up a base for the phone booth.  I used a palette to add ink to.

Next I used a ring stamp and added blotches.  The words were stamps from the kit.

Lastly, I added the little 7 chip from the kit sort of like a doorknob to open the phone booth!!

The picture shows the painted box and lines as purple, it is red as a contrast with the chip.

One page done!  A few more to go.  On the 15th, I will showcase the next page using the freebie stamp that is given to members.  Members get special perks throughout the year from Frog Dog and have first chances at each month kits.  Many sell out quickly!!!
